In 2022 the Tel Aviv Cinematheque launched with the initiative of Amit Itzcar, the Soundtrack Tel Aviv Film Festival - a new film festival, entirely dedicated to the connection between cinema and music. This year, the festival presents a wide range of musical genres, including jazz, folk, alternative rock, experimental krautrock, “Mizrahi” music, Israeli rock, Cuban music, classical Indian music, reggae, and more. The genre we are focusing on this year most of all is hip hop. We are celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop slightly late (for obvious reasons), with an original and exciting project that connects local hip hop with the history of Israeli cinema.
The second edition of Soundtrack Tel Aviv, which was planned for November 2023, was canceled due to the tragedy of October 7. It took us a few months to regroup and to realize that together with the pain we have all been experiencing ever since, it is imperative to continue creating culture, and consuming culture, in Israel. So, now we are finally opening the second edition of Soundtrack Tel Aviv.
Some of the things we had planned for last year have been carried over to this year, however, we also have lots of new films, premieres, and new restorations of classics, as well as brand-new shows and projects, a special event marking the tragedies of October 7th and its aftermath, and much more.
We have waited too long – let’s begin.
