A music documentary that tells the story of a band that was not destined to succeed, on its way to...success. This band is Parvarim Refugeez, a group of ten childhood friends who grew up in the most Israeli of suburbs - Maccabim-Reut. What begins as a youth rebellion, leads to an extraordinary journey of a band trying to succeed, against all odds. They make hip hop, a style that in the early 2000s doesn’t really represent the Israeli mainstream, plus a twist of edgy punk. The combination is deadly, not only musically, but also for the band members themselves who dream of being successful, even though they are inherently not supposed to succeed. Success, after all, means joining the system against which they rebel.
A Work in Progress screening, followed by a panel discussion with the creators of the film and members of the band. The discussion, dedicated to Israeli hip hop culture in the early 2000s and the story of Parvarim Refugeez, will be moderated by Matan Sharon, deputy editor of Time Out Tel Aviv, hip hop journalist and half of the rap podcast "Yo! The podcast".
Total duration of the event approx. 120 minutes
