Celebrating the jubilee of this long-lost Jamaican classic No Place Like Home
The first edition of Soundtrack Tel Aviv, in 2022, celebrated Jamaica’s first feature film’s 50th anniversary. After his history-making "The Harder They Come," Jamaican film director Perry Henzell started to work on his second feature film - which depicts a trip into the wild side of paradise through the eyes of a NY career woman.
Henzell didn’t get a chance to complete his second feature film during his lifetime. “No Place Like Home went unseen as the negative was thought lost for over 25 years. Found and restored, this is a true cinema event. Screened at a few festivals in 2006, and finally released in the USA in 2019, this is a beautiful film about a woman escaping her comfort zone and arriving in Jamaica finding beauty, and rediscovering herself in an unfamiliar place can now be seen - with an incredible soundtrack handpicked by Henzell. It features songs performed by Bob Marley, Etta James, Carly Simon, Toots and The Maytals, Marcia Griffiths, Desmond Dekker and The Aces, The Sensations, The Three Degree, Ernest Ranglin, The Heptones, Nasio Fontaine, Lobo, Lord Messam and His Calypsonians, and a song recorded by cult queen P.J. Soles ("Halloween", "Carrie", “Rock 'n' Roll High School”).
The screening will be preceded by a short lecture by producer, musician, collector and researcher of Jamaican music, Ron Levy-Arie.
Total duration approx. 110 minutes
