When Tomatoes Met Wagner /
When Tomatoes Met Wagner
The young generation moved out, the shops closed, the school was abandoned, and only 33 inhabitants remain in the Greek village of Elias, but Christos and Alexandros still have hope. Growing in their fields are organic tomatoes, direct descendants of the seeds Columbus had brought to Europe, and with them they plan to take over the world. For the plan to work, the tomatoes need music, and who better than Wagner to stimulate growth! They also need the loving hands of the spirited grannies who pick, cook, taste and package them. To regale the home-factory workers, Alexandros tells—and sometimes authors—myths and folktales. Excitement peaks when the women leave home for the first time to visit their sauces and meals on the shelves of European supermarkets. Will their success revive the village?
