Gods of Molenbeek
Aatos and Amine are growing up in Molenbeek, the notorious “jihadi hotbed” of Brussels. But the children are much more interested in the really important questions: does God exist? What powers does he have? Can he be seen? And of all the gods their parents believe in—gods hailing from all manner of countries and backgrounds—who is the chief god, the one who stands over the rest? Aatos, son of a Finnish mother and a Chilean father, and Amine, whose parents are Muslims, are the best of friends. When they play together in the forest, they are joined by Flo, a Belgian girl with strong opinions on every subject imaginable. Their childish adventures are slowly permeated by the realization that they are different, and that for some reason, the world expects them to believe in entirely different things.
