UNITED STATES 2019, 96 MIN, Nine-year-old Emmanuel, a promising student and the youngest of three siblings, gets a video camera and starts filming his family. Through his eyes, the house is filled with love despite the hardships, and the streets have more to offer than violence, drugs, and shootings. There are friends out there, and adventures. Emmanuel was not the only one who got addicted to the camera. His mother, brother, and sister diligently documented their intimate moments for twenty years. Their time in one of Washington’s most dangerous neighborhoods, 17 blocks from the US Capitol, brought them joy and pain, violence and comfort, life and death. Director Davy Rothbart (known for his work on the famed radio program This American Life) joins them to paint the heartwarming portrait of a family, and a disturbing portrait of society.
