Reconstructing Utoya /
2018, 98 MIN, “And as I was sitting there, it was so hard to process that surreal feeling, that it really had happened, and how horrible it had been… but then I thought: I’m not going to die today. This is not the end!” The woman who spoke those words, Rakel, is one of four young survivors of the Utøya massacre of 2011. Sixty-nine other youth campers were murdered that day, on that picturesque Norwegian island. Rakel, Muhammed, Torje, and Jenny meet to reconstruct the day’s events in an unusual way: they direct a group of teenagers who play the victims, including the four survivors, and tell the story on their behalf, on stage. In an enclosed studio, using minimalist means, they recreate sounds and voices that allow them to cope with their memories in a safe environment.
