They Shall Not Grow Old
These images were filmed on the front lines of 1914—1918, and the voices belong to the soldiers of that war, yet they look and sound like they were filmed here and now. A century after World War I, acclaimed director Peter Jackson uncovered hidden treasures in the British Imperial War Museum. The footage of the battlefields and the military bases, from which soldiers went to war and returned home, was skillfully remastered in color, edited, and combined with authentic voices—some taken from countless interviews with war veterans, others restored from the footage itself with the help of lip-readers. The result is a rare documentary, inviting viewers to observe The Great War as it really was, for the first time.
