Ex Libris - The New York Public Library
Scattered around New York are 92 magic doors guarding no less than 53 million cultural treasures: books, manuscripts, paintings, photographs and digital works. Frederick Wiseman, who previously documented many large institutions dedicated to knowledge and culture, now turns his camera towards the New York Public Library. In an age when many see libraries as no more than storage spaces for books, soon to disappear from the world, this enormous library (spread across 92 locations) constantly questions its role in the community. Behind the questions and possible answers, we find many human faces, each with a fascinating story to tell.
